GYST Livestock Parasitology is a ParaBoss WEC QA certified lab in Armidale, New South Wales. With highly qualified staff covering a wide range of livestock parasitology and diagnostic procedures we can guarantee your tests are in the best hands.
Worm egg counts can be conducted as individual animal tests or bulk sample testing across a mob. Please contact us for further information on the best form of testing for you, and how you go about it. Detection of tapeworm and coccidia is also identified in your report.
Larval differentiation provides information on the species of worms present and can assist with drench selection.
The process involves incubating and hatching worm eggs to infective 3rd stage larvae. This process will take 7 days for sheep/goats/alpacas and 10 days for cattle. This allows for accurate identification of worm types based on morphological characteristics.
Liver fluke: can infect many species of livestock causing extensive damage to the liver. This has a hidden impact causing significant economic loss.
Please see our forms below for diagnostic testing.
We also have a consulting vet on hand, Dr. Rad Nielsen, to provide general advice around your results, including fine-tuning drench selection.
Rad also provides a consultancy service for producers who are keen to develop a more wholistic approach to worm control. This provides a one-on-one service that helps producers develop a strategy to control worms and manage drench and Barbervax use. Specifically, it will determine when to conduct worm tests throughout the year, whether any treatment is required following that test and what the most appropriate treatment is. This will take into account current management practices, drench history and resistance status, stocking rates and any other relevant information (depending on the level of advice required).
GYST Livestock Parasitology Services is located at the CSIRO ‘Chiswick’ Research facility, just outside Uralla, on the New England Highway in northern NSW.
